A&S Funeral Services proudly honours the memory of Ms. Olive Dorsett and Robert Lightbourne, two founding pillars whose courage, loyalty, and compassion helped lay the foundation of our company.
Standing beside CEO Mr. Elbert Higgs during the company’s earliest years, they helped establish the standard of dignified care that continues to guide A&S Funeral Services. They served at a time when the funeral industry had limited resources and lacked many of the modern-day facilities, equipment, and conveniences available today, making the work especially demanding. While many shied away from the profession because of fear and superstition, they stepped forward with courage, resilience, and a heartfelt commitment to ensuring every family received compassionate and respectful care.
Ms. Olive Dorsett served as Mr. Higgs’s right hand and a trusted partner from the early 1990s. She assisted skillfully in the preparation of the deceased, directed funeral services with grace, and delivered heartfelt acknowledgments that brought comfort to grieving families. Her work was more than a job; it was a calling she embraced wholeheartedly.
Mr. Lightbourne worked hand in hand with Mr. Higgs, serving faithfully in the preparation room, assisting at funerals, and supporting burials. His reliability, professionalism, and unwavering dedication contributed greatly to the growth and reputation of A&S Funeral Services. Even when illness prevented him from continuing his duties, his influence remained deeply rooted in our organization.
Mr. Lightbourne passed away in 2019, and Ms. Olive passed away in 2025, but their legacies continue to inspire us. We honour them as Honourary Staff Members and cherished members of the A&S family, whose devotion helped shape who we are today. Their compassion and strength live on in our values, our service, and the hearts of the countless families they supported. We will forever remember them and honour their contributions with gratitude, love, and respect.
